PHIL TAYLOR VS RAYMOND VAN BARNEVELD PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS LATEST ODDS
Only a couple of years ago meetings between Raymond van Barneveld and Phil Taylor were guaranteed to be classic encounters. Some of darts greatest moments have come in matches between these two men playing at the peak of their profession and battling it out in front of big crowds and the television cameras. However, a string of heavy defeats for van Barneveld has knocked the Dutchman’s mental strength against ‘The Power’ and he now looks a beaten man before he even takes to the stage.
There are those who will look at the 8.0 (7/1) available on Barney and think that it has to be worth a bet on the possibility of him regaining his best form and thus being able to more than match Taylor, and to a certain extent I would have to agree. If he throws his best darts then he can beat him, we know that, but they key word here is ‘if’. It is a long time since we have seen Barney on top of his game and there are genuine concerns that his best could be far behind him. If you’re tempted to back him in the match odds then do so with small stakes, he’s not one to have your mortgage on given his recent form.
One area of the game which hasn’t eluded the Dutchman just yet is his maximum hitting. He hit five 180’s in defeat last week and four when winning only three legs against Adrian Lewis the week before. Taylor hasn’t been shying away from the lipstick in recent weeks either, four 180’s against Ronnie Baxter in week two were followed up by six against James Wade last week. Whatever the outcome of this game I think we can be certain of seeing our fair share of maximums and thus a punt on there to be over 7.5 in the match at 5/6 with Stan James looks to be the best bet of the match.
