PHILADELPHIA UNION VS MANCHESTER UNITED PREDICTIONS AND LATEST BETTING ODDS
United are, understandably, the big favourites to roll over Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union in this high-profile exhibition match. With no top-flight football to enjoy in July, many fans are paying as much attention as possible to these pre-season friendlies and the bookies are also listing very complete slates of odds- more so than I’m used to seeing for pre-season fixtures.
Tonight's match kicks off at 00:30 UK Time, which is 7:30 pm local time.
Top UK bookmaker William Hill prices Manchester United at 1/4 to win the match while Philadelphia are a lengthy 9/1. The draw is priced at 7/2 and if you’re looking to bet against United that is probably where your money should be. I really don’t see a huge amount of goal threats in the American sides line-up so I think they will likely deploy a containment strategy and look to sneak one off a set-piece.
The favoured correct score draw is a 2-0 result to United at a 6/1 price. United to win 2-1 pays out at 15/2 while 3-0 to the Red Devils is a slim 13/2. United to romp to a 4-0 victory rewards at 10/1.
A 1-1 draw here is priced at a plausible 9/1 while a 2-2 draw trades at 18/1. Philadelphia are 18/1 to win by a 1-0 margin but I think, if they do somehow get a victory, it will be by a 3-2 margin which pays out at 66/1.
Philadelphia Union will be looking to Danny Mwanga to get the job done in front of goal and you’ll find him at a juicy 11/4 to score anytime and 8/1 to score first or last. Sebastien Le Toux is priced at 10/3 alongside Jack McInerney. Fred trades at 6/1 to score anytime and could be more than worth a bet.
Dimitar Berbatov looked extremely sharp in the last fixture and he will be looking to replicate that form again tonight. This is likely why Hills have priced Berbatov at 4/5 to score anytime and 10/3 to open or close the scoring. He’s at 7/2 to hit two or more but I think if he gets a full 90 minutes that the 20/1 hat-trick bet is definitely not out of the question.
Mame Diouf is trading at 5/4 anytime alongside Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck. Nani is priced at 2/1 anytime while Ryan Giggs looked quite sharp last time out and trades at 11/4 with Tom Cleverley. Darron Gibson is really looking to force his way into the first team this year and he’s at 10/3 anytime- the same price as Paul Scholes. Gabriel Obertan looked a threat in Toronto and he’s 7/2 to grab that elusive goal.
The bookies favour goals here with over 2.5 goals priced at a slim 4/9 while over 3.5 trades at 5/4. Over 4.5 goals is listed at 3/1 while over 5.5 trades at 13/2.
I think that tonight could really be the Dimitar Berbatov show if he plays with just as much guile as he did last match. He knows that he still needs to win over the fans and he looks to be going about things with an all-business approach. He scored an absolute screamer against Celtic and will be a constant threat tonight- not just with his ability to strike the ball well but also his distribution and how well he brings others into play around the box. Against weaker opposition, Berbatov will find the space and time he needs to get his confidence together for the make-or-break Premier League campaign that awaits in just a few weeks time. Chicharito hasn’t joined up with the team yet, but Berbatov is doubtlessly looking over his shoulder at the young Mexican.
