Pietersen sets England up for fall
Kevin Pietersen is well-known for being brash and cocky. And who can blame him considering he is one of the best batsmen in the world. Yet he is not one of the world's greatest thinkers. Highlighted when he said that England could become "unbeatable" in the one-day game after they took a 2-1 lead in the seven-match series against India. "I don't think anyone can beat us on our day, but we need that consistency," he said before game four takes place under lights at Old Trafford on Thursday. Pietersen's comments will make no difference to the prices for the next match on Thursday, which should prove to punters just how stupid they are. England have a one-game lead in the series purely and simply because India have done the basics in a lazy and haphazard fashion. Had Paul Collingwood's side come up against a team who were interested in stopping the ball, let alone catching it, and running between the wickets like dervishes rather than pensioners, they would probably be on the receiving end. And Pietersen would be talking just about consistency and nothing else. England are odds-on across the board after their comfortable victory at Edgbaston last time out with India a stand out 11/10 with VCBet. Usually you would need your head testing to back England at such prices in this format of the game against any team, other than the world's minnows. That remains the case. The sides are evenly matched and until we get 5/6 the pair again, India have to be the bet, even if they can't field or run. Andrew Flintoff is expected to return for England which means they could repeat the mistake of Bristol and omit Monty Panesar in place of Chris Tremlett, who turned the game in Birmingham.
