PORTSMOUTH RELEGATION LOOKS UNAVOIDABLE

With the news hitting the wires today that beleaguered south-coast side Portsmouth are now under new management, this time from some chap hailing from Hong Kong, it is starting to become apparent that things may be going from bad to worse for Avram Grant’s men. Payment problems, poor performances and a continued stream of unlucky results have seen them become nearly a lock for relegation to the Championship.
Currently, William Hill have priced Portsmouth at a very slim 1/9 to be relegated. For a bit of perspective, your £100 wager would profit £11 if Pompey were to go down. Burnley and Hull are the only other sides carrying an odds-on price to be relegated. You’ll find both of them at 4/6. Portsmouth look doomed and I have a feeling that fans could be weary that they won’t be back up automatically the next time around.
To make matters worse, Portsmouth travel to Old Trafford this weekend to tackle a surging Manchester United side who have hit their side and are playing better than ever this season. A heavy defeat will not help the morale situation in the dressing room and the terraces at Fratton Park.
Odds will be released in the next few weeks about relegation avoidance. The way that it’s looking today, with no transfer reinforcements coming in and players likely wondering when they’re going to get paid next you’ve got to imagine things will be going from bad to worse on the south coast.
