PREMIER LEAGUE 2010/11 RELEGATION - LIVERPOOL TO STAY UP
After only seven games thus far, the battle to avoid Premiership relegation is on, with a few surprises already thrown into the mix.
With Liverpool currently lingering in the bottom three, and Blackpool currently buffering the middle half of the table, many would be mistaken for thinking that this was some kind of joke.
However, the Premiership is ruthless, and as witnessed by Newcastle United's relegation two seasons ago, club status accounts for nothing in the battle to stay up.
At present high-flyers Blackpool are still heading up the odds to drop at the end of the 2010/11 season.
Despite Blackpool punching above their weight week-in and week-out, including possibly their biggest scalp to date- Liverpool over the weekend, the Seasiders are still hot favourites to go down
Betfair currently have them set at 1.75
Wigan, currently sitting at 14th on the log are next up at 2.18.
Starting off the season with some high profile wins against the likes of Tottenham, their fragility was underlined by a 4-0 loss to Blackpool.
Wigan are a team that historically have struggled for consistency, and as such are a good viewing at 2.18.
Probably the pick of the lot from a betting perspective is Wolverhampton Wolves. Mick McCarthy's men have failed to impress this season, with their sole Premiership highlight being a 2-0 win over Stoke.
Judging by their success against lower league teams in varying scenarios, it is clear that Wolves are a team destined to play in the Championship- and within the coming months might very well be faced with this scenario.
Wolves are currently trading at 2.24 to face the drop
From here things get interesting with West Ham coming in at 2.84 to drop.
The Hammers have struggled for a while now, and one would imagine that this is a sign of club that need to go back to the drawing board and reassess their competitive ability.
With that said, this side can produce some class displays on their day, and with a strong youth squad, harbour the depth to stay up.
Premiership 'newbies' Newcastle are at 5.4 to return to the Championship.
The Magpies have produced some scintillating football of late, and coming into the middle of the season their ability will shine through- they will stay up and retain their rightful place amongst the game elite
Despite Liverpool currently lingering in the bottom three, it is hard to imagine a club of this stature playing Championship football.
They are currently priced at 17.5 to be demoted, however again...this will not happen
An interesting few weeks await Premiership fans, with things looking anything but normal, leading into the close of the opening quarter of the season.
One would be shocked to see any of the historical clubs in the form of the Reds or Hammers staying in the zone further than the next 2/3 weeks, with clubs lacking funding and depth being the main contenders for relegation
Betting Tip: Wolves to be relegated at 2.24
