PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS LATEST BETTING TIPS FOR FEBRUARY 11
Thursday nights will never be the same again, well not for the next three months anyway, as the Premier League of Darts returns to our screens. Darts lovers are salivating at the prospect of potentially the most closely contested Premier League since its inception five years ago and there couldn’t be a more explosive round of fixtures to kick off proceedings at London’s O2 arena.
First up it’s the world number five against the world number six, The Bull versus The Rocket, Terry Jenkins versus Ronnie Baxter. Both are crowd favourites on the darts circuit and both will be relishing the return to the big stage. Jenkins has been an ever present fixture in the league since making the final in 2007 but for Baxter it is a return after a three year absence. Each player has a tendency to underperform on occasion but both can be world beaters when on top of their game, the word erratic springs to mind when discussing the two players form. However, whether on top of their game or not Jenkins is the most prolific 180 hitter and should be backed here at 4/6 with SkyBet to hit the most maximums.
The second match of the night also involves a player who is returning to the Premier League scene. Adrian Lewis played superbly in the recent World Championships to earn his recall and was showing some of the best 180 hitting we have ever seen. He continued in that same vein of form at January’s Players Championship Finals before succumbing to eventual winner Paul Nicholson. His opponent tonight is the man that Nicholson beat in that final, Mervyn King. King was distraught after his defeat but is not the sort to let that get to him and these two will push each other all the way here, the draw at 5.2 (4/1) with Betfair may prove to be a good bet but I prefer to look at the 180’s market again. 1.5 (1/2) shots are not always the most appealing but that price on Lewis to hit the most maximums must be taken advantage of.
James Wade versus Raymond van Barneveld is the third and penultimate match of the night. Barney was visibly fatigued at the World Championships and has since taken a much needed break from the game, meaning tonight’s will be the first competitive darts he has thrown in over a month. There are two possibilities here, either he will come back revitalised and back to his best or he will be a little ring rusty and take time to get back in full flow. Wade is the type who will take full advantage of the latter scenario and could still push him all the way if it is the former so for that reason I would back Wade at 2.2 (5/4) with Betfair.
The night concludes with a re-match of the World Championship finals; however I do not see a repeat of the result. Taylor has been struggling with a virus for the past week and his participation in tonight’s curtain raiser was in doubt at one stage, thus he has admittedly not been practicing much. He also confessed that he hadn’t practiced much in the weeks before the Players Championships and it became clear that when he doesn’t prepare appropriately players can run him close and even beat him. He went out at the semi-finals there after scraping through earlier rounds against Terry Jenkins then Colin Lloyd. I expect that the shorter format of the Premier League will suit his opponent Simon Whitlock who tends to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders. Even without Taylor’s recent health issues I would have liked to have taken him on tonight, so after taking them into account I suggest full steam ahead on a back of Whitlock at 5.0 (4/1).
