PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS WEEK SEVEN LATEST BETTING TIPS
The halfway stage of the 2010 Premier League looms and although Phil Taylor remains his unrelenting dominant self, the other seven players are separated by just four points and any three of them could still fill the remaining semi-final slots.
Mervyn King threw away maximum points despite leading Raymond van Barneveld 6-3 at one stage in last week’s fixture and he is first to take to the stage this week where he meets Simon Whitlock in the night’s opener. Whitlock has been struggling with a foot injury in recent weeks and has been forced to practice in bare feet; there were some of the first clear signs of his game suffering in the latter stages against James Wade last week. One thing that isn’t eluding him is his ability to hit some monster finishes, highlighted by a maximum checkout of 170 against Wade. King also produces big finishes with consistency and therefore backing ‘133 or higher’ in Betfair’s highest checkout score is a must here.
Wade finally got his first win on the board with victory over Whitlock and he was fully deserved in doing so. The victory can be the catalyst to catapult Wade up the table and into one of the all important top four spots when the league stage concludes in eight weeks time. Terry Jenkins on the other hand has been extremely disappointing in recent weeks and I don’t see him troubling Wade too much here. 8/11 with Boylesports looks a decent price about the defending champion as he looks to make it two wins on the bounce.
Raymond van Barneveld remains something of an enigma to darts betting fans this year. Moments of utter astonishment and despair are followed by flashes of pure brilliance, not just from match to match but also from leg to leg. For fans of the Dutchman there was one extreme positive to take from his 7-7 draw against King last week; where in the recent past Barney might have folded when 6-3 behind, he battled on this time to take an important point and remain in the hunt for a top four finish. Tonight’s opponent Ronnie Baxter was on the wrong end of a similar scenario last week when he let a 6-4 lead turn into an 8-4 defeat. Baxter had been riding the crest of a wave but now that he has faltered Barney can take advantage. Back Barney at 2.0 with Betfair here.
