PREMIER LEAGUE TOP GOALSCORER BETTING ODDS INDICATE WAYNE ROONEY AS CLEAR FAVOURITE
With a stellar run of goalscoring success in his past few matches, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney looks set to continue to striking acumen well into the new year. Virtually every top UK bookmaker is now listing Wazza as the outright favourite to notch more Premiership goals than anybody else.
That’s quite a feat considering how few he scored last year when he made his move into midfield to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo. Now that those shackles are off, it’s clear that Rooney hasn’t lost his goalscoring touch, but has also gained the role of playmaker forward and his slide-rule passes are helping United get those important goals from midfield.
You’ll find Wayne Rooney’s odds at 12/5 to tally up the most goals for the 2009/10 season.
His closest competitor is a tough three-way battle between Jermain Defoe at 11/4, in rude form for Tottenham, while Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba are listed at 3/1 and 7/2, respectively. Drogba is off for African Cup of Nations duty for the entirety of January so that will hurt his year-end tally. Torres is still hitting the back of the net, but has not performed near his best for quite some time. There are rumours that he is unhappy at Anfield and that he may be playing through injury at the moment.
Darren Bent was off to a flying start but has cooled his jets in recent weeks. The Sunderland man trades at 11/2 and, at the moment, is the only other plausible winner. Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha both can be backed at 25/1 prices. Gabriel Agbonlahor is at 33/1 alongside last year’s winner Nicolas Anelka .
Emmanuel Adebayor and Andrei Arshavin trade at 40/1 and then the odds take another hefty jump to Dimitar Berbatov at 80/1. Hugo Rodallega, Peter Crouch, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Carlton Cole all trade at 100/1 while Craig Bellamy can be backed at 150/1.
Barring injury, I think Rooney is your best option here. He is only 3 goals off his tally for last year and this is exactly the type of form we need Wayne Rooney in before this year’s World Cup!
