Premiership Transfer Gossip Betting: Didier Drogba Staying at Chelsea
Didier Drogba is set to stay at Chelsea. As the transfer window draws nearer by the day, it seems as though a number of top English players are, as usual, subject of an extreme amount of rumour and innuendo regarding where they'll be playing their football in 2009. THE ODDSAfter Peter "Satan" Kenyon came out with some clear-the-air talks in regards to Drogba, it seems as though the folks at Betfair remain on the fence as to whether Drog will actually go anywhere. Drogba to leave is paying 1.24 while Drogba to stay will pay out at a mere 1.04. Seemingly, Drogba is set to stay, but people aren't convinced. If Chelsea received a solid offer (perhaps from a certain high-profile Spanish club in Madrid) it might be a very different story very quickly. As the action heats up at the top of the Premier League table though, you have to wonder whether Chelsea would be able to cut it without Drogba's presence. DROGBA'S FORMDrogba adds not just a good goalscoring touch and the ability to score clutch goals, he also brings that battering-ram style of football that is proving popular in the Premier League in the past few years. In many ways, people view Drogba as a pioneer of that particular type of footballing style. Chelsea would be kissing 15-20 goals a season goodbye, as well as their chief physical threat up front. Chelsea have other strikers (including the Premier League's current leading scorer) and surely they can buy others should they choose to, but you can't find Didier Drogba's everywhere. If they don't have a replacement lined up going into mid December, you really have to assume that the Drog's going nowhere.
