Rangers v FC Porto Preview
Stan James PricesRangers??11/8Draw???11/5Porto???.7/4Now there is no getting away from the fact that Rangers have had a poor start to the season. They'll see this as a chance to put things right tonight and for all intents and purposes this is a must win game for Alex McLeish. He's been rattling on about Scottish football and especially Rangers not showing the rest of Europe that they are a credible force. Ibrox used to be an intimidating place to go and he wants those days back. So expect Rangers to come out with all guns blazing.Porto will be without Benni McCarthy up front due to the manager disliking his hair extensions (true), and they'll also be without ex Tottenham striker Postiga. They will be relying on Almeida (8/1) and Sokota (8/1) to do the business up front.Rangers could possibly give on loan signing Francis Jeffers a start but if not then they will at least start with Novo (5/1) and Prso (11/2). Jeffers is 13/8 to score at any time and he just might be what Rangers need at the moment to kick start their season. Their form in the SPL has been average so far but McLeish has upped the ante to his players by saying, "It's the type of game you play for. If you are afraid of this game, you should not be here." So expect Rangers to be up for this and with a packed house at Ibrox, they will be down their throats early. I suspect there will be goals tonight because Porto have a very expansive game and could expose Rangers at the back especially on the counter. And don't think for one moment that Porto are not the same side under Mourinho. They are still a very good technical outfit, with a manager in Dutchman Co Adriaanse, who is very highly regarded. Over 2 goals is priced at 11/10, but a better option could be between 4 and 6 goals at 3/1. It sounds a lot but this could just be one of those games that's end to end. Porto will see it as a chance to beat a side that they perceive, to be one of the weaker sides in the group and Rangers will know that if they can tuck the Portuguese up at home they'll make their mark on that second spot behind Inter. Their record against the Portuguese is also very good, having won all four matches at home against Portuguese teams. It could also get tasty at times tonight as well and Rangers will undoubtedly play the physical card. Over on the bookings is Over 46 at 6/4. I wouldn't be surprised to see a red card tonight as well. Also a couple of markets that could be profitable are Over 10 Corners at Evs, and then the Goals x Corners market. You basically multiply the number of goals by the number of corners and get a total. Over 28 at 11/10 could be a great bet because I suspect this will be end to end stuff.
