Ricky Ponting's Chances to Captain Australia at 2009 Ashes Under Doubt
After coming in for a lot of criticism for loosing 2-0 to India, Ricky Ponting seems to be letting his chances of silencing his critics go waste. Bookmakers also seem to be loosing faith in his captaincy and odds of him being still at the helm of the Australian team at the start of Ashes in 2009. New Zealand has set Australia on the back foot in the first test at Brisbane. after bundling them out for a paltry 214 in the first innings. The Aussies were saved a major embarrassment today, thanks to a 98 run knock from Vice Captain Michael Clarke. Michael Clarke is being seen as the most eligible candidate to take over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting. Last week Paddy Power was giving odds of 1/6 for Ricky Ponting to remain the captain. But today Sky Bet has come out with odds with Ponting down to 1/2 to retain his captaincy. One can also bet on Ponting not to be a captain anymore at 6/4. A loss in the ongoing Test Match would seal the issue of captaincy and we might see a new Aussie captain very soon in that situation.
