ROGER FEDERER ODDS NOW AT 8/5 TO WIN 2010 WIMBLEDON
After surviving what would likely have been the biggest upset in a very lengthy period of time, Roger Feder is now listed at 6/4 to win the 2010 edition of Wimbledon. While Federer was considered a solid favourite before action got underway, you sort of wonder how this is going to affect the prices of the other contenders now that a non-ranked player pushed Federer all the way.
Rafael Nadal is considered a very strong second favourite and you'll find him priced at 21/10 with top UK bookmaker William Hill. Scotland's Andy Murray is available at 17/2 while Andy Roddick is priced at 9/1.
In-form Robin Soderling is listed at 16/1 and, while I don't think he's necessarily going to win, I think he may be a decent each-way shout. Lleyton Hewitt is priced at 20/1 while Novak Djokovic sits at 25/1. Thomas Berdych is sitting at 28/1.
You can grab each-way odds of 1/2 on the top two places so you can get a bit of extra value from those longer-odds selections if they can get themselves to the final.
Some of the more recognizable names include Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and John Isner at 40/1 and Fernando Verdasco at 55/1. Gael Monfils is at 125/1 while James Blake can be backed at 150/1.
I think that Federer is either going to blow it in his next match or go on and win the thing. By winning one of those last sets 6-0 he made a serious statement and I think that was an important hurdle to get himself over. I think the near-disaster could galvanize Federer to dig deeper over the next few days and that bodes well for his betting price which may just drift up a bit more on the heels of today's result.
The possibility of a Nadal vs Federer Wimbledon final continues to loom large and you wouldn't fault anyone for backing either of those two.
