ROGERS CUP BETTING MURRAY vs. MONFILS

I suppose you can forgive tennis supporters mixed emotions right now. These are turbulent times in tennis betting, On the one hand, King Federer was deposed; on the other hand, the very exciting Nadal ascended to the throne.
Now you may wonder what those facts have to do with my reflections on the upcoming Murray vs. Monfils clash, in the Rogers Cup third round. They don’t, but when the former King of tennis is struggling (as I write this, Federer is on centre court, down 1-4 to Llodra (what!), and for all the world to see having a whale of a time staying alive) format kinda goes out the window.
By the time you read this post, Federer might have righted the ship and could be sailing smoothly towards the quarterfinal round. Although I can’t say, I am certain yet this will indeed be the case.
If things continue to unfold as they are right now, well, an upset might be on the horizon. Who would have thought that would happen.
A “Fed-upset” would have a significant impact on the upcoming match in many ways. The impact on the players would be twofold. It would a) send a message to Murray to be wary and mindful of his opponent and b) it would buoy Monfils to follow-up the “Fed-upset” by his compatriot Llodra with another of his own.
The seismic shockwaves it would send through the tournament aside, it would open tennis bettors to the possibility that more upsets would follow. Par for the course.
Oh and don’t forget there is another Frenchman in action right now, Jeremy Chardy and he is incidentally, up a set on Davydenko and now the favourite to win the match in Live betting markets! Fancy that!
There is no catalyst like patriotism to stoke the fires of inspiration and move players to unimaginable feats.
As things stand right now, Murray is a solid favourite at 2/9 to win outright. Gael Monfils is listed as the 11/4 puppy.
In terms of talent, Monfils is a huge talent, bigger than Llodra is, and ever will be, in the broader sense of the game.  He is a top 20 player, and once even peek-a-booed his way into the top 10.
Moreover, he is enjoying an encouraging season with a 23-13 mark. Recently, he finished runner-up in Stuttgart. Lifetime, he trails only 1-2 to Murray.
All things considered, a win over Murray wouldn’t exactly be a shocker. The case against Monfils is his penchant for injuries and mental frailty. Both have had a hand in his chronic underachievement.
