ROGERS CUP LIVE TENNIS BETTING ACTION: VERDASCO VS. CHARDY
Fernando Verdasco features in afternoon live tennis betting action as the Rogers Cup second round continues. Verdasco is gearing up for a clash against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, a spot in the third round on the line.
At face value, this is a good-looking matchup (and not just because they are eye-candy) but because the markets are rather good on both sides of the camp.
When the markets opened, Verdasco was listed as the 1/2 favourite at Paddypower while Jeremy Chardy was tipped at 6/4 to win outright. Value to be had whichever way you slice this match.
Verdasco has the “on paper” edge. He is a top ten player, on good form this season with a couple of titles in the bag. If there were a charge, against the Spaniard, it’s that at times he plays with the consistency of a top 30 player. Might this be the case today?
Chardy is an interesting talent, however, he has struggled to fashion himself into a potent threat on the tour. Here and there, we do see glimmers of potential in significant wins.
In fact, Chardy owns the 1-0 head-to-head edge over Verdasco having beaten him as recently as Memphis this year. Chardy only just edged out the Spaniard 7-6(4), 6-3 but it was a good win nonetheless. Wins like these can give players huge confidence.
Confidence isn’t something that is in abundance with Chardy, evinced by his underwhelming term that boasts a 16-21 mark.
Recently, there has been a perceptible turnaround of sorts – he won six of his last ten matches (including his run at Wimbledon). Might he carry some of that momentum into this match.
Chardy is making his first appearance on the American hard court swing in Toronto and some might have the required adjustment in his game from the European clay courts (where he spent his summer thus far) to the hard courts a factor. I think not. Chardy is a good hard courter.
Verdasco should win this match if he wants to remain a viable top ten player. He was listed at 5/4 odds to win in straights and at 11/4 to win in three. That he is just long of Evens is telling.
Chardy was tipped larger, at 16/5 to take the match in straights and at 4/1 to take the match in three sets. He is nipping at Verdasco’s heels in the market.
With the lay of the land so sorted, and Live Betting on this match now set to get underway, the watching and following of this match should be double the excitement.
