Roman Empire about to expand?
Chelsea are 8/13 to spend the most of the 'big four' clubs during the close season, according to Ladbrokes. The free spending Blues are 5/4 to shell out £50 million and over in their quest to win back the title from Manchester United. The Red Devils, tipped for a summer spending spree, are 11/4 to pay £10million-£19.9 million and the same price to splash out £20million-£29.9 million. Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: "Chelsea's domestic and European failings will surely prompt Roman Abramovich to give his wallet an airing. "Much has been made of Chelsea trying to become self sufficient. But if a top player becomes available that principle may go out of the window." Michael Owen, rumoured to be top of Alex Ferguson's wish list, is 3/1 to start next term with the champions. Fellow striker, Thierry Henry, is a 5/2 chance to start next season at Barcelona. Bolton man, and key Allardyce lieutenant, Kevin Nolan is 5/4 to kick off the season at Newcastle. Weinberg added: "If Big Sam's installed as Toon boss he'll surely be tempted to raid his former club for Nolan."
