Rooney, Rio and Gerrard Out For Germany Clash: International Football Betting Tips

Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and quite possibly John Terry could be skipping Wednesday's International clash with the Germans. The mid-week friendly match is shaping up to be an opportunity to give the next generation a run-out as a number of top Premier League stars have declared themselves unfit. NEW FACESTheo Walcott, Gabby Agbonlahor, Ashley Young, Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne and a number of other rising talents in English football all look set to be given the opportunity to prove themselves in a match that is never really just a friendly. Everybody remembers that classic match from 2001 when Michael Owen spearheaded a famous 5-1 England victory over their arch rivals. Needless to say England fans don't just want their team to beat Germany- they are thirsty for a blowout. David Beckham was also left out of the side by Fabio Capello, as he hasn't seen competitive football for the better part of a month. His loan to AC Milan is drawing closer by the day and he will look to get his 108th appearance in an English shirt early in the new year. A YOUNGER FASTER ENGLISH TEAMAfter having examined the squad for the upcoming game, you'll immediately notice that this doesn't resemble your typical England. For instance, look how much pace is on that team-sheet. Agbonlahor, Walcott and Ashley Young all have the capacity to burn defenders. Wright-Phillips will also feature and its interesting just how similar all of these players are to each other, yet how different they are from England's current crop of A-list superstars. Gerrard, Terry, Rooney and others like Heskey and Crouch are all big physical presences and use their size and strength to dominate opponents. This younger crop of players tends to be more wiry and quick, very much in the mold of a young Michael Owen except with a more raw sprinting ability. See Walcott in the Croatia match or Gabby Agbonlahor running at two defenders on the break to see an example of what I'm talking about. I'm very interested to see how this injection of pace into the side will alter Capello's strategy going forward. If these young guns pull a 2001 and give Germany a proper hiding, then you could see the birth of a new English team which plays much faster and much more direct football than previously. I'm backing the young England team to make a statement against Germany and I think the Germans don't have much experience playing against wildcard players like Agbonlahor and Walcott. Lampard should feature and we may see Peter Crouch hit the field. Michael Carrick hasn't seemed to have been in Capello's plans before now, but an England team lacking a strong center midfield may require Carrick's steadying influence. He had a good game at the weekend and could prove instrumental, especially if he starts alongside Lampard or possibly Barry.
