Rugby betting: Heineken Cup third round
It's double header time in the Heineken Cup, and boy are there some glamour ties. Leicester and Toulouse, who have won five of the 12 Heineken Cups between them, take each other on in a group-deciding arm wrestle starting at Welford Road this weekend. Leicester cannot afford to lose on their home patch after going down 22-9 to Leinster in Ireland in round one, but Toulouse are treading a well-trodden path as French sides Biarritz and Stade Francais have both won in the Midlands in the last three years. Just two points have been enough of a handicap start for the French in five of the last six raids they have made to England but Paddy Power give Les Toulousains a 5.5-point start this time around. Toulouse have been in scintillating form in their domestic league, sitting top with 18 points from four games. They boast the scalps of league champions Stade Francais and Biarritz and as they won the last time they travelled to Leicester in 2005, a 5.5-point start looks generous. Reigning champions Wasps make the tough journey down to European Challenge Cup holders Clermont, which has all the hallmarks of a classic clash. Wasps defensive coach Shaun Edwards will have to bring his A game to the party as former Wasps hero Alex King has defected to France and will have revealed all of the champions' secrets. Clermont took the curious decision of fielding a weakened side against Munster in round two and were punished with a 36-13 beating at Thomond. Totesport make the London side 7/4 underdogs for this encounter and they have a habit of losing in France by the smallest margins in low-scoring affairs. They won on their last visit across the Channel, however, beating Castres 16-13, but before that victory they lost by five, six and three points and Clermont to win by 1-5 points looks a decent bet at 5/1 with Bet365. Finally, the bet of the weekend goes, surprisingly, on Glasgow. The Warriors simply have a tremendous home record, which sees them unbeaten at home in all competitions since September last year. Biarritz have hardly set the world alight during the past 12 months and their away record in their domestic league saw them win just 38 per cent of their road games last season. As Saracens discovered almost to their cost in round two, Glasgow are scoring points for fun at the moment, and with Biarritz looking turgid at the moment, the Scots look worth a bet on the handicap receiving seven points with Betfred if you are feeling safe, or just to win the match at 2/1 with Bet365 if you want to be a bit riskier. Verdict: 2pts Glasgow @ 2/1 (Bet365); 1pt Toulouse +5.5 @ 4/5 (Paddy Power) Click here to get a free £100 to bet on the Heineken Cup with Bet365
