San Marino Grand Prix Betting Preview
After the first three overseas races the first leg of the European season takes place this weekend at Imola, the spiritual home of the Tifosi (Ferrari fans). No other track in the world can claim to be more ingrained in the culture of motorsport and the track, whilst somewhat muted in recent years, particularly after the tragic death of Senna, still provides a ferocious high-speed challenge for the drivers. In the few years preceding 2005, it became a place for Ferrari worshippers to come and watch their cars romp to yet another triumph, although this year it is highly likely to be the Renaults that steal the show.Ferrari have upped their game somewhat with the introduction of the F2005 and recent successful tests indicate the team is heading in the right direction fast although the Bridgestone tyres still seem to be struggling for pace and durability compared to the Michelins the Renaults enjoy.Renault holds an ace in the form of Fisichella's choice to run the new "B" spec engine following his retirement in Bahrain. Sources suggest the new engine has a bit more power and will be fresher than his rivals one race old mills (little known fact about F1 engines - whilst they are designed to run for two full race weekends, they tend to lose over 40 hp per hour of running, meaning Fisi could be 80 hp up on his immediate rivals).BAR seem to have made some real improvements in the testing break since the last GP, setting an outright lap record in Spain. Button got the pole here last year and brought home a handy second place in the race. If you are looking for a dark horse to back, then our Jensen could be the man to go for. Mclaren will again be without Montoya who is still recovering from a broken shoulder, although it's only a matter of time before Kimi Raikkonen shows his true form and racks up another win. Indeed Kimi made the podium in Bahrain and stand in De la Rosa scored an impressive fifth place. Williams are having a decided average season again. Unfortunately for them it would appear there is no obvious flaw with the package, it just doesn't seem to have all gelled together as well as the Renaults. The team would be happy with both cars in the top six and a podium would be a massive boost. To sum up, it seems that it will take a lot to topple Renault from the winner's position of the podium, although with a fresh engine it could be Fisichella's chance again to win. Qualifying 1 could be Buttons chance to shine and so try a small investment on the Brit to grab pole.
