Singapore Grand Prix F1 Wagering Preview
All the talk in the F1 world this week has been about Lewis Hamilton's appeal against his penalty in Spain, perhaps overshadowing the build up to what will undoubtedly be a pivotal race in the season in Singapore this weekend. Hamilton was appealing against a 25 second penalty imposed upon him after he cut a chicane in overtaking Kimi Raikonnen. Hamilton's appeal failed after a hearing on Tuesday, with the main the sticking point for the judges the fact that Hamilton did not concede the illegally gained advantage over Raikonnen quickly enough. Hamilton will have been desperately disappointed with his performance in Monza last time out, when Sebastian Vettel took victory in wet conditions leaving the Brit back in seventh after starting fifteenth on the grid. The result of his appeal will only compound Hamilton's misery and put huge pressure on his shoulders, leaving him just one point ahead of Massa with just four races remaining in the season. This would be a worry for Hamilton backers, particularly since there are question marks over his ability to handle pressure. He visually imploded in the latter part of last season and effectively handed the title to Raikonnen.Sunday's inaugural Singapore Grand Prix will be a new experience for many of the drivers; it is an entirely new track, the race will not finish until the early hours of the morning, and the drivers will be racing under lights for the first time. Just how much impact any of this will have remains to be seen, but I think it is worth noting that Kimi Raikkonen has been lauding the benefits of racing in the evening this week, explaining that he likes to sleep until noon every day! Although the Finn hasn't taken a victory since April, I think he can reverse that sequence here. He can't have become a bad driver overnight and now that the pressure is off with him looking unlikely to challenge for this season's drivers title, he may come back to form. There are two other bets in this race as far as I can see, the first being Vettel to build on his victory last time around and taking the race 'without the big six'. There is a distinct possibility that we could see some rain over the weekend in Singapore, and the young German seems to thrive in such conditions. My final recommendation is that you back Red Bull-Renault driver Mark Webber to finish amongst the points. The Australian has taken points in eight of this season's fourteen races and 11/8 represents a decent bit of value. Recommendations:Kimi Raikonnen to win Singapore Grand Prix - 5/1 (Skybet, Betfred)Sebastian Vettel w/o big six - 7/2 (Paddy Power)Mark Webber points finish - 11/8 (Betfred)
