Southampton have bounced back nicely from an awful start to the season are now in a more comfortable 13th place in mid table and only trail Burnley on goal difference who are in 11th themselves.

The Saints were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool last time out making it their second in their last three games. This season they have only won three of their 14 games at home in the top division and once in their last four and certainly must hope to rectify that wretched record at home to Burnley.

Though Burnley are in 11th place it is only on goal difference and Sean Dyche’s men will be putting their hopes on a positive result to further themselves from the drop zone where so many of their rivals have been attracted.

Burnley’s form has improved recently as they have not tasted defeat in their last three games in the top flight even though they have been pretty low-scoring affairs as exemplified in their 0-0 draw with Arsenal last time out.

Their away form makes for tough reading as well which once again puts the advantage on the Saints to pull off a good result. Ashley Barnes is still missing for the Clarets but besides him, a fully-fit squad is available for selection while James Ward-Prowse is still unavailable for the home side.

With Southampton keen to register a good result against Burnley in the wake of their FA Cup exit and mauling at Liverpool and Burnley notorious for being a hard side to break down, expect a low-scoring affair with The Saints gaining a slight advantage as the game goes on.

There is very little between these two teams. While Southampton hasn’t been tremendous recently, Burnley has shown a real fighting spirit at this pivotal point of the season but their away form and a possible resurgence from Danny Ings could put them on the back foot.
