Southhampton v Manchester City

Now this could have goals written all over it. Southampton have not kept a clean sheet at home so far in the Premiership....but have also scored in every home game as well. Man City have a reputation for attacking football, so it will certainly be entertaining if nothing else. But temper this with the fact that Man City have tightened up their act at the back. The sieve like qualities we know and love so well from last season seem to have been ironed out.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />Southampton are favourites at 6/5 with Stan James, and that might on the face of it seem a little short. They still haven't registered a win for their new boss, Steve Wigley and the fans are still unsure as to whether he was the right choice. In fact the Chairman has delivered The Sword of Damocles and insisted that he has no immediate plans to sack Wigley.....a sure a sign as any that he's already on his way.....But they need a win...desperately, and the dressing room will be pumped up come kick off. The players like Wigley and they'll always give 100%. so they might just come out and blitz City. The draw is 11/5, a standard price and you could read this game as one of them high scoring draws. 1-1 is 11/2, and 2-2 is 14/1 or if you are feeling adventurous 3-3 is 50/1.Man City are 2/1 shots. A reasonable price, but although they have tightened up at the back, it's only Anelka that has been putting the ball away up front. If he has an off day, you feel Man City could struggle. Anelka is 11/8 to score at anytime. Man City not to score at all is 6/4. The key could be Wright Phillips. If he performs, he could have a field day against a shaky Southampton defence. He's 10/1 to score first or last, and 5/2 at anytime. So this game is difficult to call really. Keegan will sniff a chance to take advantage of Wigley's precarious tenure at St Mary's, but Wigley will be equally defiant to prove his doubters wrong.
