SPAIN ODDS TO WIN 2010 WORLD CUP SLASHED AFTER LOSS TO SWITZERLAND

They looked a bit like the old Spain that we might remember from past tournaments- don't you remember the collection of first-class attacking talent that were always supposed to steamroll the competition yet somehow wound up cocking up the entire thing? Well, they were back on display again today in a shock loss to Switzerland at the 2010 World Cup.

This represents the first time that Switzerland have ever actually beaten Spain in international competition. What a stage to do it on.
The Swiss defence proved just how dogged and organized they actually are and if they can maintain that type of defensive solidity throughout the tournament then they will be extremely tough to break down.
Most English bookmakers are now slashing odds on Spain, with the tournament favourites now likely looking like Brazil and possibly Germany. Brazil didn't exactly impress too much in their match with North Korea, but they still managed to grind out a victory.
Spain has no answers to any questions asked by the Swiss. Another way to look at it is that Spain were the ones asking all the questions, but Switzerland had every answer in the book.
Group H is now turned upside down with Chile and Switzerland in pole position to go through.
The other really interesting thing about this match is that Spain's tactics have now been completely exposed. Remember how well they did in qualifying and now a team that's never been able to beat them has beaten them and you can count on Chile and Honduras trying to replicate this type of performance.
Top UK bookmaker William Hill has priced Spain as the favourites but Brazil are breathing down their neck. Other bookmakers have started to lengthen Spain, while Betfair is going absolutely crazy with layers piling onto Spain.
Let's just say that if you're looking to back the Spanish to win the World Cup after that performance, you're going to get a better price now than you would have at any point over the last three years.
