Spurs Drift in Quest to be Best of the Rest
Tottenham are now available at 6/1 (Blue Square) to win the "Premiership without the Big 4" market after their 4-0 home thrashing against Man United. Despite a bright start, Martin Jol's men ended up receiving a footballing lesson from the champions-elect and now find themselves 11 points behind 5th-placed Bolton. Every bookmaker now makes the Trotters favourites to win this market with Stan James offering an attractive 11/10 about the Lancashire outfit. Their nearest current rivals are Reading, who continue to confound expectations and are now only four points behind Bolton with a superior goal difference. However, compared to the big prices available a few weeks ago, the 8/1 (William Hill) seems a bit short. Everton and Portsmouth appear to be the other main contenders in this market, with the former keeping their Merseyside rivals at bay last Saturday, despite their alleged 'small club' status! The Toffees are 9/1 (William Hill) to grab that 5th spot in the league, which looks a better bet than Pompey (also 9/1Bet Fred) who are tailing off after a bright start to the campaign. Finally, I wouldn't put anyone off a speculative few quid on 28/1 Blackburn (VC Bet) who had a rotten start to the season and are now showing plenty of attacking flair thanks to Pedersen and McCarthy. However, with ten points to find on Lancashire rivals Bolton, they need to finish their season with a flourish and hope those teams above them continue to drop points.
