Spurs facing sticky situation

Spurs welcome Everton to White Hart Lane on Tuesday night knowing that anything but a win, and some goals, will cast further doubt on whether the side have real designs on a top four finish this season. It seems odd to say that the pressure is on Martin Jol and his Spurs team in only the second game of the Premier League season but things were badly off track in their opener against Sunderland. Jol opted to start that game with Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov up front meaning £16.5m Darren Bent was left warming the bench alongside Jermain Defoe. Tottenham did not trouble the Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon and indeed on the hour mark it seemed that they were happy to settle for the draw. Can you imagine Arsenal or Liverpool being so defensive away from home? Jol is a different coach away from White Hart Lane and while Spurs may continue to struggle outside of north London, their home form propelled them to fifth last term. The Dutch coach will be tempted to start the game with Bent up front alongside Berbatov and may even find place for Keane on one of the wings. What is certain is that Everton will prove a very tough task. The Merseyside outfit finished sixth last season and were one of the few clubs to beat Spurs at White Hart Lane when they won 2-0. On the scoresheet that day was Andy Johnson and it his presence in the Everton attack that will alert Spurs fans. Johnson is playing for an England starting spot and given an injury-free run he will also have his eyes on the Premier League top scorer chart. His link up play with Everton's player of last season Mikel Arteta ensures plenty of chances and we fully expect to see an open, free-flowing game. Add to the mix Bent's own chase for an England place and we expect goals. Verdict: 4 or more goals @ 11/4 (Sporting Odds) SportingOdds are offering all new customers £100 worth of free bets.
