Spurs produce in-running classic

Tottenham's stunning fightback on Monday night to earn a point against Aston Villa will not only go down as one of the Premier League matches of the season it will also go down as one of the classics of in-running betting. Tottenham took the lead at White Hart Lane on a day when they remembered 125 years of football at the north London club through a modern-day hero Dimitar Berbatov. At that stage Spurs were backed at a low of 1/3 on Betfair to win the game and finally claw their way out of the bottom three. Villa were available at a juicy 16/1 to take all three points. However three was the number of the day as Martin Jol's side did their own version of the Keystone Cops in defence and conceded three goals to trail 3-1 at half-time. When they conceded another courtesy of Paul Robinson's third mistake, this time from a Craig Gardner free-kick, Villa are backed at 1/100 on Betfair, Tottenham drifted to a massive 499/1 to win the game and the draw was available at 69/1. Trailing by three the game also looked to be up for under-pressure boss Jol as he is backed at 1/5 to be the next Premier League manger to lose his job. But then comes the fightback. Goals from Pascal Chimbonda and a Robbie Keane penalty pull the score back to 4-3 and it stays that way until injury time. In the 92nd minute Villa are backed at 1/11 to win the game as Spurs, through Younes Kaboul, equalized to make it 4-4 and set off scenes of celebration not seen at the Lane since the days of Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa and the FA Cup triumphs. By the end of the game £12,422,984 had been traded in the match odds market and while many punters were left rueing backing the odds-on favourite, the game had shown what an opportunity there is available when you bet in-running. (Editor's Note: Betting in-running gives opportunities for punters to grab wildly fluctuating prices. Spurs were available at 1/3 then 499/1! Go to Betfair for more betting in-running opportunities)
