Spurs to spend big in January sales?

Despite their Carling Cup victory at home against Blackpool, bookmakers are still predicting that new Tottenham coach Juande Ramos will spend big in the next transfer window. Ramos has already been strongly linked with moves for former players Fredi Kanoute (a former Spurs player), Daniel Alves and Andres Palop, to strengthen his side's Premier League form, but William Hill go 4/9 that none of Sevilla's squad move to north London in the January transfer window. However, despite the snub from Sevilla, Ladbrokes expect Spurs to be among the Premier League big-spenders when the window reopens. Spurs are 2/1 joint-favourites (alongside Chelsea) to spend the most money on transfers and of the many things you could say about Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, he does financially back his manager in the Premier League. If Ramos, who is 9/1 with William Hill to win this month's Premier League manager of the month award, is bringing in his own players then some under-performing Tottenham squad members may have to be shipped out. Out-of-form goalkeeper Paul Robinson is 7/2 to have left Tottenham by February, while contract rebel Jermain Defoe and striker Dimitar Berbatov are 9/4 and 13/8 respectively to leave Spurs in January. William Hill: Sevilla players to sign for Tottenham in January: 4/9 none, 9/4 one, 8 two, 25 three or more; to stay (leave) Spurs in January: 1/6 P Robinson (7/2), 1/5 D Bent (10/3), 1/4 R Keane (11/4), 1/3 D Berbatov (9/4), 4/9 J Defoe (13/8). Ladbrokes: to spend most in January: 2 Chelsea, Spurs, 5 Man Utd, Man City, 8 Liverpool, 16 West Ham, others on request.
