Spurs vs Blackburn
Martin Jol has worked wonders with Spurs this season and, much the same as Liverpool, their success has been built largely on outstanding home form and a rock-solid defence, which includes the versatile Ledley King, who is fast establishing himself as one of the very best defenders in the Premiership, a player whose style could easily be likened to that of Rio Ferdinand. Indeed, Tottenham have lost just one of their fourteen home matches in the Premiership this season, which was against the mighty Chelsea at the start of the season. The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool had to settle for a point when visiting White Hart Lane during the current campaign, proof, if proof be needed, that Spurs are now capable of mixing it with the best on home soil. Conversely, Blackburn's form away from Ewood Park has not been too hot: they have lost eight of their fourteen matches on the road so far this season. That said, a great deal of credit should be attributed to Mark Hughes' men as, given their comparatively small resources, they have done incredibly well this term and are currently flying high in fifth place in the league. This success is very much testament to their collective determination. However, as I alluded to, they are a much better side when playing in their own back yard where they have won nine, drawn two - and lost just two. With this in mind, and given the strength in depth they now have throughout the park, Spurs look set to collect maximum points from this fixture. The even money offered by some bookies about them in the match result market isn't bad value at all, but there is even better value to be had in backing Mido in the anytime goalscorer market at 7/4 with William Hill. The Egyptian, who has scored in four of Spurs' last six home matches, is currently the North London team's top scorer this season having netted ten times in all competitions, ahead of Defoe and Keane, both of whom have hit the target eight times apiece. Mido is a different type of player altogether to the latter duo; he's better in the air and, therefore, benefits from the incisive aerial passes that the likes of Carrick, Lennon and Murphy provide. All in all, he looks a good bet to hit the back of the net again on Sunday.
