Spurs vs Newcastle Betting Tips

Martin Jol's Spurs were disappointing when visiting St James' Park on December 23 when Newcastle gave them a ready 3-1 beating. However, the north London side have prevailed in seven of the Magpies' last 10 visits to White Hart Lane and I reckon that they will once again make home advantage tell on Sunday. Spurs' form has been hit and miss on their travels, but at home they are formidable opponents for any side, and the fact that they've won 12 of their last 13 in all competitions at 'The Lane' is indicative of how good they are in front of their own fans. All at the club will have been buoyed by the fact that winger Aaron Lennon - undoubtedly one of the most prodigious home-grown talents in the game at present - signed a new five-year deal. The 19-year-old returned from a few weeks on the easy list in his side's draw at cardiff in their FA Cup game last weekend and will give Newcastle's back four a torrid time. Indeed, Newcastle are suffering heavily with injuries to their defensive resources. Peter Ramage, Celestine Babayaro and Craig Moore, Titus Bramble and Stephen Carr are still sidelined, leaving Glen Roeder with few options. Such is the extent of the problem that winger Nobby Solano has been filling in at left back! Skipper Scott Parker returns to the fray following suspension, while Emre, currently under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, should be in the starting XI. Reports regarding Nicky Butt, who has been hit with a virus recently, are more upbeat and the former England midfielder might at least make the squad. Spurs will be without Ledley King. in addition to Mido and Paul Stalteri. But otherwise Jol has pretty much a full-strength squad to choose from, and I envisage them overwhelming the Toon Army on this occasion. Just seven points adrift of fourth and fifth places sides, Arsenal and Bolton, there is still plenty for play where Spurs are concerned. One thing I can see this game serving up is goals - and quite a few of them. The last two Premiership fixtures between these sides have thrown up four goals and I reckon this game will deliver the same. At 3/1 with VCbet, 4-6 in the total goals market looks the way to go. Verdict - 1pt 4-6 in the total goals market @ 3/1 (VCbet)
