Spurs vs Reading Betting Tips
Spurs head to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading on Sunday in the knowledge that they have yet to win away from home in the Premiership so far this season. However, Martin Jol's charges are firmly on the ascendency - they are now unbeaten in ten matches in all competitions - and this fixture should result in three points for the visitors. The north London club didn't make the brightest start to the current campaign, in terms of their overall performances, not just results. But they appear to have the bit firmly between their teeth now and exceeded all expectations - probably their own for that matter too - when lowering the colours of reigning champions Chelsea at 'The Lane' last weekend. Although they rode their luck on occasions, Spurs were ultimately worthy winners. Aaron Lennon, scorer of the eventual match-winner, ran rings around Ricardo Carvalho in that game and one suspects that the likes of Ibrahima Sonko and Ivar Ingimarsson will be in for a similarly torrid time on Sunday. And Lennon is not the only Spurs player firing on all cylinders. Indeed, Robbie Keane is on good terms with himself and Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov, who netted a brace during Spurs' 3-1 win over FC Bruges in their most recent Uefa Cup tie, has made a big impression since arriving at White Hart Lane. Furthermore, Spurs look pretty solid at the back too - Ledley King goes from strength to strength at the heart of defence. Reading are by no means disgracing themselves as Premiership debutantes. They carried all before them when trouncing the competition in the Coca-Cola Championship last season, and are currently a respectable 12th in the table. The Royals have conceded more times than any other club in the Premiership so far this season, but they are generally a solid outfit on home soil. Apart from a crushing defeat against Arsenal, Steve Coppell's men have proven a tough nut to crack in their Berkshire lair. Ask Man Utd and Chelsea. The Red Devils had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Madejski in September, while Chelsea needed the intervention of Lady Luck to nick three points there the following month when Ingimarsson's own goal was the difference between the two sides. The major test now facing Reading is that of their resolve. They've been beaten in their last five matches in all competitions, including four Premiership fixtures. Although they have rarely lost any caste in defeat, as the season progresses the established Premiership stalwarts will begin to find their stride and there's always a chance that Reading's bubble will burst. Reading are capable of scoring goals and when they play with less inhibitions they will prove that. However, at the moment they are approaching most Premiership games with a desire not to lose, rather than a desire to win, which is something which might hamper there progress. With this in mind, and given how solid Spurs look defensively at present, the 13/5 on offer with Paddy Power about Spurs in the to win ti nil market looks pretty generous to me. Verdict: 1.25pts Tottenham to win to nil @ 13/5 (Paddy Power)
