ST LEGER DAY AT DONCASTER LATEST TIPS AND SCOOP6 SELECTIONS
It probably isn't a big surprise that Rewilding (Tiger Hill) has retained his spot as the distinct favourite in the 2010 St Leger at Doncaster on September 11. The classy Godolphin charge is looking for his first Group 1 score and he's done well in the past when being sent off as the betting favourite.
Rewildling's best odds are looking to be at Paddy Power at the moment with the Irish bookie pricing him at 11/8 at the time of this writing. All other bookmakers have him at 5/4 or 6/5.
8/1 Dandino (Dansili) is seeing a fair amount of betting but the main issue with this one is that the recent wins haven't come at Group level and this may be too big of a step up in quality. He did go close in his Group 3 attempt, but you have to wonder whether he'll be able to hold the distance.
SNOW FAIRY (Intikhab) is the selection here for those looking to beat Rewilding and an each-way forecast looks to be a solid bet for those not feeling a win-only on this one. She steps up to tackle the boys after winning the Oaks and the Irish Oaks this summer at Epsom and the Curragh. She's 8/1 at the moment.
If you're looking for an outside bet on the St Leger, try backing 40/1 Theology (Galileo) as he boasts plenty of acumen at longer distances and may be able to take advantage of a quicker than expected early pace.
The Scoop6 is looking like an excellent bet this Saturday and the St Leger makes up the fourth Scoop6 leg this time out.
The first Scoop6 race is the 2:25 at Goodwood and it's a tricky-looking handicap but BULLWHIP (Whipper) gets the nod here to build on a score last time out at Newbury. Woodcote Place (Lujan) also looks a solid addition to the ticket.
The 2:45 at Doncaster is the Ladbrokes Portland which is a 5f140y dash that is 22 strong. Early positioning is going to be key here, but BAJAN TRYST (Speightstown) teaming up with Ryan Moore looks to be the way to go here and I definitely respect the jockey change. Steely Dan fans should opt for Deacon Blues (Compton Place) who has Frankie Dettori aboard for the trip. He tends to close well and has been close in recent attempts.
The 3:05 at Chester is the third leg of the Scoop6 and its a 7f122y handicap where the pick appears to be ONE SCOOP OR TWO (Needwood Blade) who has been in cracking form having taken four from his last four. Sir George (Mujadil) is also a solid addition to the ticket as he looks the most promising challenger.
The 3:35 at Chester is the fifth leg of the Scoop6 and WAJIR (Danehill Dancer) lines up for Godlphin and looks set to put some disappointing races behind him. The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained colt is dropping down from mediocre performances on the listed and Group 2 and 3 circuits. There aren't any real standouts here so you have to trust Godolphin's ability to pick their races.
The 3:55 at Doncaster is the Edie Stobart Park Stakes which is a Group 2 clash going 7f. PREMIO LOCO (Prized) looks the pick here after putting in some fantastic performances since a forgettable stint at Meydan. The 6 year-old gelding is 113 with a third place finish to Canford Cliffs (Tagula) in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes. Godolphin's Shakesperean (Shamardal) could be another to consider if you're looking to play a few extras at the end.
