ST LEGER STAKES AT DONCASTER SATURDAY BETTING TIPS

We have a very massive day kicking off at Doncaster tomorrow and I fully expect plenty of excitement, upsets and (hopefully) a solid payday. The highlight of the day is undoubtedly the St Leger, but I'm also looking at many of the other races to provide some interesting bets. The opening race of the day is the Group 2 Champagne Stakes. There are two unbeaten runners contesting this race reserved for two year-olds. Silver Grecian and Await the Dawn are 1-1-1 and 1 respectively with Grecian carrying the most weight at 9-1. We are listed at Starting Price, but I expect Silver Grecian to have enough to get the job done here. I expect him to go off as the favourite, but Saeed Bin Suroor's Poets Voice definitely makes things interesting. We've already written about the Portland Heritage Handicap and this massive field makes it a big tougher to handicap. Markab gets the nod at 7.0, but I'm looking at Johannes and Jaconet as my two outside contenders at 9.0 and 7.5, respectively. Saeed Bin Suroor's Kite Wood is currently listed at 3.75 and is considered the favourite for the 2009 St Leger Stakes. I also think Changingoftheguard (4.33) and Monitor Closely (5.0) are very solid contenders who will be ready to pounce. Father Time has been tipped for a performance and you can never rule out John Oxx, who brings his Mourayan to Doncaster at 7.5. I like Kite Wood, but a Changingoftheguard victory wouldn't take anybody by surprise. The Group 2 Park Stakes runs after the St Leger and although a number of punters are excited about Himalaya and his first run of the year, I'm favouring Stimulation. I don't think the weight is an issue and he finished in fine form last year. Ouqba is definitely capable of a surprise here, so keep him in mind for an each-way. I'm backing Well Come in the 4:05 Handicap and Mister Angry in the 4:40 Nursery Handicap. I will also be backing Falcon Rock in the final race at 5:15, but I will also have a punt on Snoqualmie Boy as my outside tip.
