Saturday saw Chelsea record another solid victory while Manchester United were forced to depend on their substitutes in order to pull off a 2-0 result at QPR. One wonders how much time Harry Redknapp really has at this point as there are a lot of relegation candidates who have started to pick up the pace a bit lately - QPR is not one of those teams.
Southampton were able to keep up the pressure on Manchester United (and Manchester City for that matter) by being able to get past manager-less Newcastle in the late Saturday game. There is plenty of reason to think that Saints will be able to keep the pressure up and fight all the way to the end of the season for that coveted Champions League position.
West Ham vs Hull will get us under way and, speaking of teams outperforming their expectations this year, West Ham will be buoyed by their recent run of form. You’d expect them to fancy themselves against the Tigers and the bookmakers seem to think they should be able to wrap this one up with a minimum of fuss. The Hammers can be backed at a 7/10 margin for the outright victory and that’s probably going to see them be an important first leg in a West Ham/City double for a lot of punters.
The draw in that one can be backed at a pretty reasonable 11/4 and that's not a bad wager if you think that Hull will either score first or outperform expectations throughout the bulk of the match. They have been getting better recently and they should have a bit more fire in the belly as they go forward.
