Sunderland vs Manchester United Tips Pt 1

After being unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Cup after a shock reversal to Swansea on Sunday, Manchester United will face off against Sunderland - another side who have been well below expectations this year. David Moyes would have been thinking the side had turned the corner after they rattled off a steady series of good results in the league only to lose to Spurs at home for the first time in eons.

While you wouldn’t necessarily say that the team are in total crisis mode right now, it certainly doesn’t bode well for their Champions League aspirations as they look likely to be competing for fourth this year instead of top spot. 

It remains to be seen what the ramifications will be in financial terms if United don’t have guaranteed Champions League football next season. How could a side who strolled to the Premier League summit last year blow things so emphatically this year? Is it Moyes? Is it his backroom staff? Has the Scotsman lost the dressing room already? 

It certainly doesn’t look good at Old Trafford right now, that’s for sure. 

All that goes out the window tomorrow though as United face off against the Black Cats in the first leg of their two-legged tie. While this one obviously won’t have Premier League ramifications, there is still plenty of momentum to be picked up by smoking Sunderland and getting things back on track. 

With David Moyes now admitting they are unlikely to add new players in the transfer window, United need to step up and get that midfield scoring goals once again. Injuries up front have been an issue and players like Hernandez and Welbeck need to step up in a big way.
