The New York Mets are sizzling
The New York Mets are sizzling winning 8 of their past 11 and it all starts with solid pitching. Pedro has been awesome and now Victor Zambrano is on a roll, as he has an ERA of 1.86 over the past 19 innings covering 3 starts. All he has to show for it is a 1-2 record as his team has been lacking with the bat.He should be in good shape however against the punchless Astros, who are tied with the Indians for the worst hitting average at .244 and have lost 23 of their past 28 games. They have only hit as a team, 44 homeruns in 1830 at bats.Blue Jays Roy Halladay's numbers are bordering on embarrassing for the rest of the major leagues, as his ERA is falling and falling. His past 3 starts, have cost Vegas a lot of money as his ERA of 0.39 has made the Jays a lock.Kelvim Escobar has been spectacular in his 36 innings of work for the Angels this season with 43 strikeouts as opposed to just 15 base on balls. The problem with Los Angeles is that they are offensively challenged these days without the services of hitting stud Vladamir Guerrero!San Francisco Giant's catcher Mike Matheny was considered one of the finest defensive catchers in the game during his days with St. Louis, but even he cannot help the Giants poor pitching staff. Jason Schmidt used to be unhittable, yet now he is 3-2 in 10 starts and his ERA is 5.69. Veteran Kirk Ruetor is just 2-4 in 12 starts and his ERA is approaching 5. Noah Lowery in 11 starts is 2-6 and the ERA of 5.57 is rising. On the offensive side, the play of veterans Marquis Grissom 2 homeruns and 14 RBI's and Michael Tucker 3 homeruns and 14 RBI's is contributing to the 10 losses in the last 11 games. This Yankee slide is putting a huge smile on my face, as the Bronx Bombers are discombobulated to say the least. There is a huge chance that they will get swept by the Brewers, who send Doug Davis, Ben Sheets and Chris Capuano to the hill against the struggling pinstreipers. The lefthanded Capuano has been lights out his past 3 starts with an ERA of 1.64 covering a span of 22 innings.Look for the Tigers to win the series finale in Los Angeles, as righthander Jason Johnson has been spectacular of late. He has pitched into the 8th inning in his past 5 starts and his ERA of 1.88 in the past 24 innings, makes him a strong play.
