Tiger Woods leads the way for Betfair punters in The Open
Punters on Betfair, the world's leading betting exchange, have Tiger Woods as clear favourite to win The Open at St Andrews.Although Tiger has been matched at a high of 6 (5-1), he is now down to 4.1 (3-1) as punters continue to speculate on his chances after decimating the field by eight shots in 2000 when The Open was last at St Andrews. Other leading contenders include the remainder of the 'Big 5' - Els, Mickelson, Singh and Goosen, but one of the biggest movers is Darren Clarke, who after a good finish last week, is trading at 30 (29-1) from a high of 75 (74-1). US Open champion Michael Campbell had been trading as low as 40 (39-1) but is now able to back at 70 (69-1). Caspar Hill, Betfair spokesman, said, "Betfair's Hole by Hole betting will add to the excitement of The Open and it is traditionally a market where punters offer generous prices! In The Open 2003 one lucky punter backed Tiger at 96 (95-1) to get a double bogey or worse on the first hole which copped after he lost his ball."Betfair prices on the Winner's market as of 11.45am - Woods 4.1; Els 12; Singh 18; Mickelson 23; Goosen 24; Garcia 24; D Clarke 30; Donald 36; Love 40; Westwood 48; Poulter 120; Montgomerie 130.
