Tips on English clubs in the Uefa Cup

Despite unimpressive recent performances by Tottenham, Everton and Bolton, for some reason Ladbrokes have priced up an English winner of the Uefa Cup at just 6/1 and go 16/1 that there will be an all-English final. With two sides going through from each group you would have to expect slowly-improving Spurs - who can score against anyone with their mpressive forward line-up that includes Dimitar Berbatov - to get through to the knockout rounds. However, Everton, who are 25/1 shots to win the competition, have a tough group including AZ Alkmaar, Zenit St. Petersburg, FC Nurmberg and Larissa FC and will need a marked upturn in form to get through their group. Bolton, meanwhile, must take on Sporting Braga on Matchday 1 before stepping into the bear pit of the Allianz Arena to meet 4/1 tournament favourites Bayern Munich. With Red Star Belgrade also featuring in their group of death alongside Aris Salonika, little wonder then that they are 9/1 to win the group and 50/1 for outright success. Leave them well alone. Skybet are offering 4/5 about Tottenham going the furthest in the competition of the British sides and that has to be value, as the only other club in the mix is Aberdeen, priced at 18-1 with Betdirect and Paddy Power to win Group B, including Panathinaikos, Lokomotiv Moscow, Atletico Madrid and FC Copenhagen. The tournament is surely between Bayern Munich and Atletico, who were this column's 16/1 outright tip for the trophy at the outset, and are still available at 13/1 on Betfair.
