TORIES SLASHED AS POLL LEAD GROWS
BOOKMAKERS have been forced to cut the price on the Conservative Party winning an overall majority at the next General Election following new polling information suggesting their lead is growing. On the eve of the Labour Party conference in Manchester, Ladbrokes have trimmed the Tories from 1/2 to 4/9 and now make them 6/4 from 7/4 to win a majority of 100 or more seats. Spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "The Tories are all the rage with punters at the moment and polls like this are grist to the mill. The last person having a bet on Labour tried to do so with a white fiver."David Cameron's charges are 1/4 to win the most seats, with Labour 11/4 and the Lib Dems 100/1. The election is still odds on at 1/2 to be held in 2010.
