Tottenham Hotspur United vs Liverpool: Preview, Odds and Betting Tips - 30/09/2023 (Premier League)
- By admin on September 26, 2023 23:39 GMTSpurs look to continue great home form
Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool will be played on 30 September 2023 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London.
It is a high-stakes game between two teams who are highly placed on the 2023/24 Premier League table. four wins and a draw from five, adding up to 13 points from 15 for each team is enough to assure both sets of fans of the efforts that both sets of players are making to better their lot from last season.
Liverpool are going to be playing in the UEFA Europa League this season after making three of the last five UEFA Champions League finals. Spurs, on the other hand, will not be playing in any European competition, which is not too surprising but a little annoying for the club’s fans who see every season as an opportunity to get closer to their goals.
More importantly, it will be a big test for Australian manager Ange Postecoglou.
Since joining Spurs from Glasgow Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, the Greece-born former Australia national football team defender has shown the club’s fans what it is like to dream again. The last time they had this kind of immediate impact was under Mauricio Pochettino.
There have been lapses but many are cutting him some slack thanks to the club being without the talismanic Harry Kane, who moved on to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. But with those lapses, the Spurs players have shown a mentality that proves that they believe in their ability to get things done without Kane’s influence.
Jürgen Klopp may not remember the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when he and his Anfield Reds go visiting for their matchday 7 clash. That will not stop the German from putting his best foot forward to face whatever Postecoglou will set up for him.

Form Guide: Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are seven games (all competitions) into the 2023/24 campaign and things are already looking good. The biggest issue remains their goalscoring prowess which has been greatly diminished by the exit of Harry Kane.
The Premier League table may not betray how much of a struggle they face in front of goal – they are second behind Manchester City in number of goals scored in the league this season – but that is also down to one key form factor of theirs: Created Chances.
Postecoglou’s team is regularly creating chances which will give Klopp something to worry about as he draws up his tactics for their clash. However, those chances are not finished well enough, which will give Postecoglou something to worry about.
Spurs have an average of 15 shots in their last game but have only scored 13 goals. While this is not a bad return after six league games, it is a ratio they will seek to improve if they are to compete against Liverpool on matchday 7 and for the rest of the season.
Luckily for the former Australia national team manager, his team has some great finishers. He has work to do to get them clicking as the season goes on, starting with Liverpool.
Form Guide: Liverpool
It has only been a run of positives for Liverpool since their draw with Chelsea on matchday 1 of the 2023/24 Premier League season. They have now gone on to claim four wins and 13 points, just like their matchday 7 opponents Spurs.
In that run, they have shown the results of their midfield training thanks to the ability of their new signings. The attack and defence continue to be shaky but they have also been good enough to help them earn useful victories so far in the season. Like Spurs, however, finishing remains their issue, despite having proven goalscorers on their team.
Klopp will be buoyed that Mohamed Salah has gotten his creative juices flowing. The Egyptian forward is the leading assists provider in the Premier League, having set up four goals for his teammates. He has six goal contributions in total (two goals) which also puts him at the top of the food chain in the list of prolific players for the season.
Overall, Liverpool’s form is on par with Spurs’ and both teams are evenly matched at the moment.
What to expect from the match
The form guides of both teams show that the game will be an interesting and even game. Liverpool will keep the ball more thanks to the higher technical ceiling of their midfield and defence as a unit.
However, Spurs possess effective speed which will trouble the backline of the Anfield Reds, who will be dealing with the hostile away atmosphere. There will be no clean sheets in the game because both goalkeepers will be very busy.
Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and of course, Mohamed Salah are the three players to look out for in the game. They will provide the most threat for their teams going forward in attack. Both teams will have free kicks in promising positions as a result. Whether a goal will come from them is to be seen come 30 September 2023 at the 5:30 P.M. kickoff.
Betting predictions
Both teams to score
Both teams have scored in every game this season and have attackers who are difficult to keep quiet. In two meetings last season, they both scored a combined 10 goals. The last time both teams faced each other with one team keeping a clean sheet was in January 2020 and before then, June 2019. Before June 2019 was February 2017. In the 2017 to 2023 period under consideration, both teams have faced each other 14 times with only three matches ending in a clean sheet for one of them. A safe bet is to stake on both teams scoring.
William Hill is offering 1.40 odds for this to happen.
Liverpool to score first
Tottenham Hotspur are making a habit of coming back to claim points from games this season. Outside matchday two and three in which they finished with a clean sheet, other opponents have scored first against the Lilywhites. This is something for Ange Postecoglou to work on going forward but it is something that Jürgen Klopp will be looking forward to exploiting. Liverpool will go ahead in the game and Spurs will play catchup.
William Hill is offering 1.75 odds for this to play out.
Liverpool win or draw
The last time Spurs beat Liverpool in all competitions was in October 2017, before then was in November 2012. In that time period under consideration (2012 to 2023), Liverpool have lost only twice from 24 matches in all competitions. In fact, the Anfield Reds are a team that Spurs have struggled to defeat in their history. Fans may count their shock victory over Manchester United earlier in the season but it is unlikely that Spurs will catch Liverpool napping the way they caught Erik ten Hag’s side.
William Hill have odds of 1.40 for this to happen.
