Tuesday Champions League Betting Preview PT 1

We are finally back with some more exciting Champions League action as the knockout round begins in earnest and we will have the mid-week contests unfolding over the next few weeks during the build-up to the final in May. There is a lot to like about Tuesday’s contests and we have two English Premier League sides in action with dramatically different prospects according to the odds laid out by the bookmakers before the match.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the English sides actually cope with the Champions League this year as Manchester City remain the outright favourites to actually win the competition despite the fact that it still remains the major trophy that has eluded the club since their big money buy-out by the Abu Dhabi Investment fund a few years ago.

City are away this evening to FC Basle and you can expect this one to be a fairly complicated fixture for City if they don’t take their opponents seriously enough. They have been steamrollering over so many of their English Premier League competition over the past couple of months but the Champions League fixtures can be a lot more nip and tuck affairs - particularly when a big side is playing away from home and doesn’t have a lot of fans travelling.

City should be in Basle in full voice, however, and you reckon that nobody would really be too surprised to see them take the victory here by a 5-0 margin or something akin to that.

Right now, punters will find Manchester City trading at a price of about 5/14 with some of the top bookmakers in Europe. You can expect that price to drop a bit in the build-up to the match as well since they will likely be very popular doubles paired with an outcome on the second fixture - which is much closer in terms of the outright odds to win.
