UFC 118 MAIN EVENT BETTING ODDS AND ACCUMULATOR PREDICTIONS
Now that we've gone through all the odds for the preliminary fights, we're able to get into the really interesting part of the evening- the main event card. Five fantastic battles are set to unfold with some of the biggest names in MMA set to settle some serious scores.
Nate Diaz vs Marcus Davis features two fighters with rather up-and-down recent records that are both coming off a victory. William Hill is giving the odds to Nate Diaz with an 8/15 price making him a solid favourite. Davis is priced at 11/8 and I think this one is a bit tighter than the odds might indicate, I've got a hunch that Davis could deploy a slightly different gameplan here and it's up to Diaz to solve the puzzle.
Kenny Florian vs Gray Maynard is going to be one for the purists and it looks like the bookmakers are giving this one to Florian but not by much of a margin. You can back Kenny Florian to win (by rear naked choke, maybe?) at a 4/6 price with Maynard paying out at 11/10. There isn't much between the two and I think it comes down to who gets to fight his preferred style of fight. Florian could be getting the edge because he's a slightly bigger name.
An all-Brazilian bout is set to kick off between Demian Maia and Mario Miranda as Maia looks to get things back on track after a loss to Anderson Silva last time out. He's considered a solid favourite at a 4/9 price and Mario Miranda is moving up to the main card after beating Dan Loiseau just two months back at UFC 115. I think this one could be an upset and I think Miranda is full of confidence at the moment.
Randy Coutoure vs James Toney is a fascinating fight with Toney moving into the world of MMA for the first time after a few headbutts and stanozolol-positives on the heavyweight boxing circuit. Coutoure is looking for his third win on the bounce after victories at UFC 105 and UFC 109 and I think that he has a few more tricks up his sleeve than Toney might, and if he can keep Toney on the map then he'll likely be able to dictate the fight. Coutoure is a heavy 1/6 favourite with Toney priced at 7/2- making him the biggest longshot on the entire card.
BJ Penn vs Frank Edgar is a solid main event and everybody always looks forward to Penn matches as they are always five-star affairs. This bout, for the UFC Lightweight Championship, is a rematch from UFC 112 when Edgar took the score by decision. Penn is a heavy favourite at a slim 1/4 price while Edgar can be backed at 11/4- making him the second longest odds of the day. I actually think that Edgar is great value at that price though I prefer BJ Penn to win. I wouldn't begrudge anybody a bet on Edgar when $100 would reward at $375.
If you're looking to play a UFC 118 accumulator bet on the main card, my five-fold is Davis x Florian x Coutoure x Miranda x Penn at 14.15. For a bit of perspective on the main event, Davis x Florian x Coutoure x Miranda x Edgar pays out at a massive 44.45- a $10 wager paying a whopping $44.45.
