United and City in Dogfight for Premier League Title

With Manchester City currently topping the Premier League table, their cross-town rivals Manchester United remain the even money favourites to win the League, despite dropping points to Liverpool at the weekend. Roberto Mancini's side trade at a competitive 13/8 price tag and that gives them some serious bragging rights heading into the massive Manchester Derby that is almost upon us.

United thumbed their nose at Liverpool with their line-up on Saturday and, barring the mistake Ryan Giggs made to concede Liverpool's opener, they made decent work of the home side despite looking a bit creaky at the back towards the end of the match.

David De Gea was called upon to make some very tough saves and it will have given him plenty of confidence – his shot-stopping ability is no longer in doubt.

Outside of the Manchester clubs the only side that look as if they will be able to offer up anything resembling a challenge is likely to be Chelsea. They're available at a 3/1 margin but really don't look like they're going to be able to put together a sustained run unless one of the two leaders from the North suffers a serious derailment. Injuries can accumulate very quickly once you get into the winter months and, if United fail to build-up their annual head of steam around late November, it could be a different story for Chelsea on the stretch-run in April.

The next best-priced side is Liverpool at a lengthy 20/1 – that really tells you something about how uncompetitive this year's competition is – at least for the top three positions. Fourth is looking like a genuinely fascinating battle as Liverpool look a side transformed and Spurs continue to chug along while Arsenal do look to be regrouping.

The Gunners saw a man of the match performance from Robin Van Persie this weekend as he bagged both goals. Spurs are still fancied to finish ahead of Arsenal and it will be interesting to see whether they spend in the transfer window.

Spurs can be backed at a 40/1 margin while Arsenal are available at a 50/1 listing.
