Uruguay vs England Betting Preview Pt 1
- By A.J. Ryder on June 19, 2014 02:52 GMTEngland face a must-win scenario as they take on Uruguay on Thursday’s second World Cup fixture. This one is definitely the stand-out fixture with plenty of intrigue expected with both sides coming in having lost their opening match-ups and Costa Rica looming large as the unlikely group leader.

The big takeaway from England’s opening fixture with Italy was that England actually played pretty well and looked good putting things together offensively. It appeared as though they really could have taken something from the game with a few lucky bounces here and there.
That’s likely why they come in as the distinct favourites to get the better of Uruguay, who were overtly underwhelming in their first fixture - soundly beaten by a side that few expected to trouble last year’s semi-finalists.
It’s especially interesting that England are trading at 2.10 and just a shade above even money - it’s quite likely that they may be hovering around evens once they actually kick off and British bookmakers have adjusted for betting volume. Anybody looking to have a punt on Uruguay will probably do well to leave it late and, preferably, with a UK-based book.
Look for Uruguay trading around 3.6 with every possibility of hitting 4.0 prior to kick-off with most fixed odds bookmakers. The draw can be backed at a solid 3.5 and the draw no bet option on Uruguay will probably be a popular selection too by a sizable portion of neutral fans.
They are a 2.60 price tag in the Draw No Bet market while England are a slim 1.45 but one that might be popular when combined with a high-odds accumulator or double in one of the other fixtures of the day.
The favoured correct score outcome is a 1-1 draw with a 7.50 price tag but England to win 1-0 is a solid 9.0. The 2-1 victory for England is priced at 10.0 and when you consider the amount of variables that you need to happen and the relative shortness of the price tag, you get the feeling that’s where the bookmakers really think the final score might be.
