US Masters: betting after first round
With day One of the Masters now behind us there are several key factors that bettors must take note of in order to stay ahead of the bookmakers for the final three days of the year's first Major championship. Click here for a free £200 to bet on the US Masters with Canbet Justin Rose's performance, which has seem him cut to 9/1 from 40/1, proved that course experience is of the utmost importance when playing around Augusta. Rose shot a four-under 68, which included six birdies in eight holes, and showed that not only is his game suited to the course, he also loves the atmosphere that comes with the US Masters. The Englishman has led the Masters on all four days since he started playing in the tournament but whether he can stay there is a matter for debate. Certainly his tempo and mental strength appear to be spot on but doubts remain over his application and concentration levels for all four days. He is worth getting with at 9/1 as a sunny day is forecast for Friday and with his immaculate putting on the fast greens he will stay around the top of the leaderboard, however be prepared to lay him off at a later stage if he gets on a bad run of holes as the feeling of deja vu will be strong if he lets the lead slip as he did last year. The weather will play an important role over the last two days. Saturday is set to be litterted with showers and with the fairways already soft, the way is opened up even more for the field's big-hitters. If any of Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen stay in the hunt after Friday, expect them to excel on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday the weather is forecast to be windier and a lot colder, so not only will the ball not travel as far given it is colder but the wind, which even made Tiger Woods appear amateurish at times during the first round, will again play an important role. Can Woods still win? The answer is undoubtedly yes and even when he is off his best form he can get out of trouble as he did on the par-5 15th, chipping in for an eagle to get his score back to level par, where he finished the day. His first-round scoring average at Augusta is not good and he has now gone almost two rounds without a birdie at the course. Don't write him off but equally be cautious and wait for his price to drift further from the current 19/10 as it will if his driving remains errant as it was on Thursday. Other bets to take note of are the 11/10 on offer for the week's lowest round being 67 or worse. Nobody was able to match that on Thursday - desite excellent playing conditions - so if that figure is not beaten today in similar conditions, expect it to remain unbeaten when the weather turns. Also take note that barely anyone in the field, outside of Woods (65) and Ernie Els (66), have ever scored lower than 67. The course is such that one poor shot could cost you the tournament so the advice remains to keep an eye on those with proven course experience - Mickelson, Woods, Singh, Goosen - while backing Rose to win but being ready to lay him off if his confience turns.
