US OPEN BETTING TIPS LOPEZ VS. STAKHOVSKY

Spanish poster boy, Feliciano Lopez takes on Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky in the third round today, a spot in the last 16 on the line and potentially, a clash with Rafael Nadal, presuming that Nadal beats Simon and advances into the last 16, of course.
It will be the first meeting between Lopez and Stakhovsky.
Bookmakers are completely indifferent where this matchup is concerned. At William Hill, both Lopez and Stakhovsky are trading at 5/6 to win outright and advance into the next round.
In fact, every single market on this match has both players priced the same.
A three set score line to either Lopez or Stakhovsky is listed at 4/1. A 3-1 and 3-2 score line is tipped 7/2 and 9/2, respectively, again to either player.
Interestingly, a four-set affair is priced the shortest at 6/4. A three-set affair is the next best priced at 13/8, meanwhile a five-set affair is the largest at 15/8.
When neither player is the clear favourite in the market, a drawn-out affair seems the most likely. So you would think.
Whether this is entirely true is open to debate because Stakhovsky lacks experience at this level. He’s through to the third round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
In the absence of a yardstick by which to measure him, it remains to be seen whether he can punch above his weight class and really give Lopez a run for his money.
As we get deeper into the tournament, experience becomes more of an advantage – even a necessity in most cases.
Lopez reached the last 16 at the US Open once in his career, in 2007 wherein he lost to Roger Federer. Importantly, Lopez has twice been into the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam – Wimbledon (2005 and 2008).
In my opinion, the experience tips the balance in Lopez’s favour, making him the better bet.
That said, Stakhovsky is flush after winning New Haven last week and he has continued the momentum into the US Open. Momentum and confidence are huge and such intangibles can’t be discounted. All of this makes him a tempting underdog bet, indeed.
