US Open Betting Update

Andrew Murray reached the fourth round of the US Open in New York after beating Fernando Gonzalez 6-3 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-2 in a war of attrition that lasted fully two hours and 44 minutes on Grandstand court at Flushing Meadows. Seeded seventeenth, Briton Murray demonstrated real tenacity to overhaul the hard-hitting tenth-seeded Gonzalez, who came out with all guns blazing and broke Murray's serve in the first game. However, the 19-year-old kept his composure and despite finding it hard to deal with Gonzalez's returns, he gradually wore his rivals down. By the time of the final set, the Chilean cracked. Murray will do battle with seventh seed Nikolay Davydenko in an attempt to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final for the first time in his relatively short career. He is a top priced 33/1 with VC bet to win the tournament but is generally 16/1. Top seed and world No 1 Roger Federer remains firmly in the driving seat. The Swissman cosily beat Tim Henman 6-3 6-4 7-5 before registering an even easier victory when beating Vincent Spadea of the USA 6-3 6-3 6-0. Federer is a best-priced 1/2 with William Hill to capture this prize, and it will seemingly take something special from one of his rivals to halt the 'Fed Express'. He is 3/100 with Hills to beat Gicquel in the next round. Raphael Nadal is 9/2 second favourite with that firm. The Spaniard, who was runner-up to Federer at Wimbledon, dug deep to defeat Wesley Moodie in the last round and shouldn't have too many problems booking himself a quarter-final place when taking on Novak in the next round. Nadal is a 1/12 with Hills to come out on top in that fixture. Our tennis expert's selection is Andy Roddick, who was advised at 12/1. The American is now as short as 7/1 third favourite but is available at a stand-out 17/2 with VC bet. Roddick, seeded ninth, overcame twenty-two seed Fernando Verdasco (Spa) 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 in the last round and is now set to face Becker in the next round, game the Nebraskan is a top-priced 4/25 with William Hill to win.
