US OPEN LIVE BETTING ACTION JANKOVIC VS. LUCIC
Serbian starlet Jelena Jankovic features on the Live tennis-betting menu as she battles for a spot in the third round against Mirjana Lucic of Croatia. Jankovic, frankly, is lucky to still be in the tournament after her opening performance that left a whole lot to be desired. Had it not been for the inexperience of her opponent, I do believe she’d be on Fifth Avenue right now taking in the New York sights.Simona Halep, the 18-year-old qualifier, had Jankovic on the ropes. She was up 5-4 in the third set and serving for the match when suddenly the reality of the occasion and what she was on the verge of doing obviously got to her. The wheels came undone. After that, it was quick work for the veteran Jankovic as she rattled off the next two games to close the match 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. A sigh of relief for JJ.
But let’s face it, there wasn’t much to be pleased about in that performance was there. She didn’t conduct herself as a top five player, and the negatives outweighed the positives. That doesn’t bode well for JJ in the coming rounds.
Her fans might have been worried ahead of her second round clash and rightly so. Whether it was nerves or the weight of expectation that factored in her performance I don't know, but what I do know is that she can't possibly expect to advance far with that kind of effort.
At the time of writing, Jankovic is up a set on Lucic. But again her performance has been wishy-washy, with a lot of yammering at her box. She is still the favourite to come through this affair though as William Hill is offering her at 1/14 to pass the Croatian test.
Lucic had her chances in the first set but missed them. Again, that is down to her inexperience. The deeper we go into the second set the further her odds move; starting at 13/2 at the head of the second set she is slipping further away, now at 14/1.
At this point, a comeback looks less and less likely. Then again, anything is possible and I reiterate, Jankovic is not playing at her best. All it takes is one point for the match to turn around.
Elsewhere on the live betting tennis menu is Robin Soderling in his second round clash against Taylor Dent.
The baseline, big-swinging Swede and the classic serve-and-vollyer, Dent should deliver a scintillating clash. Naturally, markets open with Soderling as the 1/14 favourite and Dent the 13/2 underdog. But didn't Llodra show us how tennis in it's purest form can beat even the best baseliner's in the game today when he took out Berdych. what a coup that would be for American tennis if Dent were to upstage the Sodman!
