VC Bet on this weekend's French Open

Golf: No worries with Woosie say VC BetEuropean Ryder Cup skipper Ian Woosnam is the surprise name at the top of VC Bet's French Open liabilities this week. The Welsh veteran has been picked off at the firm's opening show of 80/1 and is now trading at 66s to win his first European Tour event since landing the Cisco World Matchplay in 2001. "He's been put up on a couple of tipping lines but I'm hardly quaking as you have to rewind four years for his last win," said VC Bet's golf man Richard Friend. "And if you look at the way his putting fell apart when in contention at Celtic Manor you have to question whether he'll be winning again at this level." Woosnam headed into the final round of the Welsh Open a shot off the lead but a number of missed short putts saw him slump to a share of fifth place. Friend said that he expected the French to post a strong home challenge at Le Golf National de Paris. "French players used to have a dire record in their home event until Jean Francois Remesy coasted home last year. "With that in mind I took Remesy on and got severely punished last year and now that he's broken the French duck I wouldn't be surprised to see more home winners." Remesy's win ended a 35 year wait for a French victor. A win for Jose Maria Olazabal would be VC Bet's second worst result with the Spaniard backed in from an opening show of 16s to 14/1.
