Vigo Sacked At Hercules
- By Juan Arango on March 20, 2011 21:41 GMTAfter Hércules 4-0 loss at home to Osasuna, club president Valentin Botella decided to part ways with coach Esteban Vigo.
After what seemed to be a promising start to the season after helping the team come up from the second division after being mired there since the 1996-97 season.
The Alicante side were the worst team on the road only winning once outside of the José Rico Pérez. Their week two win at the Nou Camp against Barcelona sent shockwaves throughout the football world but that would be all it would become the only win of the season on the road.
Injuries have also rocked Hércules as Nelson Haedo Valdez has been in and out of the starting lineup while the loss of Tote had his season end early due to a severe knee injury. David Trézeguet has also been out due to knee problems as well.
In the end it was the poor second half of the season that did him in. Hércules have only earned seven points out of 39. They endured a spectacular fall as they went from the cusp of European cup positions to the cellar of La Liga in a span of three months.
The club has not announced a replacement for Vigo and the practice scheduled for Monday was cancelled.
