WAYNE ROONEY BETTING FAVOURITE TO SCORE
The spotlight will be firmly fixed on Wayne Rooney this evening as he returns to the Manchester United side for their Champions League group stage opener against Rangers. Rooney was left out of the United squad for their trip to Goodison Park on Saturday as manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided against subjecting the player to “the abuse he gets here.”
The furore surrounding Rooney at present stems from last Sunday’s newspaper allegations but he responded to those in typical fashion against Switzerland last Tuesday. He scored the opening goal in that game as England went on to win 3-1 in Basel.
Ferguson will of course be hoping that he can do something similar tonight. Victor Chandler make him an 11/4 chance to open the scoring this evening and just 4/7 to get on the score sheet at anytime. If you think that things might not go so well for Rooney this evening then you can back him at 18/1, with Skybet, to be shown the first card of the match.
In golf, Paul Casey’s Ryder Cup dream may not be over just yet. European vice-captain Paul McGinley has today revealed that there are serious concerns over the fitness of Lee Westwood who now hasn’t played competitive golf for more than a month.
Should Westwood be declared unfit then his place should then go to the next man on the world points qualifying list, Edoardo Molinari. However, since Molinari was one of Colin Montgomerie’s original wild-card picks another wild-card pick would be required. That would then re-open the door for Casey and Justin Rose who were controversially left out of the side last month.
Westwood’s absence would certainly be beneficial to the USA’s chances of retaining the Ryder Cup and they can be backed at odds of 7/4 with Stan James to win at Celtic Manor. Europe are 4/7.
