Wayne Rooney Transfer Betting Update
- By Allan Pederson on July 25, 2013 14:56 GMTThe sideshow continues at Manchester United as Wayne Rooney’s transfer status continues to swing back and forth like a pendulum. David Moyes continues to reiterate that Wayne Rooney is not for sale after news emerged that Chelsea submitted an unsuccessful bid for the striker. Whether it be a shaky relationship with Moyes that continues to be relatively undefined at the moment and tenable at best, the real logic looks to be that Rooney will stay unless he actively begins forcing a move - whether it be Chelsea or a big money trip somewhere else.

Rooney was reportedly unsettled by Moyes remarks that Robin Van Persie is the main man at United and that Rooney is necessary to offer cover. Certainly not wanting to be treated like a squad player on that type of a wage packet, you can understand why Wazza was aggravated by the comments Moyes made to the press.
The bookmakers appear confident that Rooney will be leaving United with Chelsea the likely destination and William Hill has not been shy about trimming Rooney’s price to move to London and line up for Abramovich’s men - a move that would certainly go down as one of the biggest transfers in recent British history.
While the effect may not be the blockbuster price tag you would see if, say, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to United; you do have to acknowledge that the message being sent would represent so much more than mere dollar signs.
Punters will find Chelsea trading at a slim 4/9 for Rooney’s signature by a September 3rd deadline when the transfer window slams shut until December. A Champions League cup-tied Rooney would be an unappealing mid-season transfer for anybody and, with just a solitary year remaining on his contract after this one, Rooney will be dangerously close to a Bosman free transfer so that means if Rooney is to leave it will be within this transfer window.
Should Rooney remain at United in through September, you are looking at a 13/8 payout that actually represents some decent value. Many things can happen between now and the deadline with the only other really tangibly-priced option being Arsenal who are still out to 6/1. It looks like Arsene Wenger’s side are doing their typically talk of signing a big name and then failing to deliver as Arsene continues to gamble on competent players that fail to satiate fans appetites for winning football. Cultured players, but not match winners, and that’s why the Arsenal faithful have their eye on Rooney in lieu of the controversial pursuit of Luis Suarez.
